Maxwell Damian

Maxwell Damian is an Tasmanian-born Neurologist who studied medicine in Germany and the UK. He was Board-certified in Neurology in 1992 and is also accredited in Clinical Neurophysiology and in Intensive Care.

His clinical and research focus is in Muscle Disease and Neurocritical Care. He was Director of the Neurocritical Care Unit in Dresden, Germany from 1995-2002, and the moved to the UK where he was Consultant Neurologist at Cambridge University Hospitals.

He is a Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology, where he chaired the Neurocritical Care Specialist Panel from 2015-2020 and of the American Neurocritical Care Society, where he is Chair of the Fellowship Accreditation committee.

Over the last year he has been occupied with the World Muscle Society COVID19 advice and practice parameters publications, of which he is the principle author, and has lead work towards a European Status Epilepticus Registry.

He retired from full-time work in the NHS in 2020, but remains a part-time Neurocritical care consultant, and continues research activity affiliated to the Cambridge University Department of Anaesthesia into Telemedicine applications in critical care monitoring and prognostication.
