WFN Neurological Needs Registry

Millions of people worldwide are affected by neurological disorders. The disease burden of neurological disorders, particularly in low to middle-income countries, is expected to grow exponentially in the next decade. Despite this, major barriers such as lack of therapeutics, facilities, specialist nurses and neurologists continue to negatively affect the quality of neurological care.

In partnership with its member societies, the World Federation of Neurology compiled an inventory of the most important deficiencies causing inequalities in the prevention and care of neurological disorders. The WFN registry of needs offers an essential real-world view, identifying disparities in the delivery and quality of neurological care to inform decisions prioritising and targeting future remedying efforts.

This important project has been spearheaded by past president William M Carroll, who finally elaborated on this large amount of data collected. We want to thank you very much for your help and it shows that the worldwide neurology community can deliver important data.

With other data in particularly the  Global Burden of Disease (GBD) we gain various perspectives and angles on the global neurologic situation, helping us to proceed and implement Neurology in all countries of the world.

The paper is available freely now as a download link ⧉, and you are invited to use it for your information and for your needs

This important project has now come to an end with the result summarised in the paper1. Following this survey there will be need for more and we will be glad to receive feedback and thoughts from delegates and member societies.
