Neurosonology Workshop 02 - Neuromuscular Ultrasonography

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MUSCULAR ULTRASONOGRAPHY
Matthew C. Kiernan (Australia)

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF NERVE ULTRASONOGRAPHY

Ultrasound examination of muscle and nerve usually supports or confirms the diagnosis suspected by clinical neurological examination. It has become one of routine examinations and widely applied in patients with peripheral nerve/muscle disorders because of its repeatability, non-invasiveness, and easiness of performing.

In this session, we will briefly describe ultrasonography of muscle/nerve, and will show that its outcomes in association with electrophysiological and MRI findings help us make a diagnosis and select the treatment in patients with peripheral neuropathy or muscular disorders. Basic detailed anatomical knowledge for understanding muscle and nerve sonography will be first shown by two speakers, and the review of many already reported clinical utilities of neuro-muscular sonography will be presented by a world-wide well known specialist of this field.
