Andreas J. Steck, MD

Andreas J. Steck trained in Neurology in the US with George Cotzias at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stanley Appel at Duke University. He completed his training with Franco Regli at the CHUV in Lausanne, where he became an associate Professor of Neuroimmunology in 1988. He chaired the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital in Basel from 1993 until his retirement in 2007 and is now emeritus Professor of Neurology and a consultant.

His research interests center on neuroimmunological aspects of diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Inflammatory Neuropathies and Paraneoplastic Syndromes. He has performed seminal work on the pathogenesis and treatment of dysglobulinemic neuropathies, especially the anti-MAG neuropathy

He is a member of several International Societies, an editor of the Swiss Archives of Neurology and Psychiatry, a former president of the Swiss Neurological Society, a regular reviewer of Scientific Journals and he has authored or co-authored more than 380 original papers, book chapters and books. He is a fellow of the AAN, ANA and EAN.
