World Brain Day 2020 "Moves to End Parkinson's Disease"

On July 22, the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) is partnering with the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society to support the 6th Annual World Brain Day. This year, World Brain Day is dedicated to raising awareness for Parkinson's Disease, a neurodegenerative brain disease that affects the mind, movement and almost all aspects of brain function.

Global air pollution is not a problem that only affects lung health. Recent data show that airborne pollutants account for 30 percent of acute stroke cases worldwide. Cleaning up the air we breathe would help to prevent various serious and common neurological disorders, as the World Federation of Neurology aims to emphasise on World Brain Day 2018, which is devoted to highlighting the negative impact of air pollution on brain health.

“The World Federation of Neurology welcomes the commencement of this new era in disease classification”, said WFN President Prof William Carroll. “We recognize the difficulties that had to be overcome in the course of this complex process and appreciate all the efforts undertaken to make the ICD more workable and appropriate. The ICD-11 well reflects important advances in medicine, in particular in neurology.”
