Journal of the Neurological Sciences | Real-world timing of early anticoagulation therapy in intracerebral hemorrhage patients with atrial fibrillation: An observational study

The efficacy and safety of anticoagulation therapy in patients with concomitant atrial fibrillation and intracerebral hemorrhage remain highly debated, and the optimal timing for resuming treatment is rarely investigated.
To evaluate these dynamics, researchers conducted a retrospective observational study leveraging data from a multicenter registry spanning eight stroke centers. The evaluation notes that while managing the dual risks of recurrent life-threatening hemorrhages and thromboembolic events presents a challenging dilemma, existing observational evidence suggests that oral anticoagulants may significantly reduce stroke incidence and overall mortality without necessarily expanding the risk of recurrent hemorrhagic events.
