Break of Day Teaching Course: Headache

Antonio Russo

Professor Russo is an associate professor of Neurology working at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. His main research focus is on migraine neuroimaging and he is author of over 130 scientific papers in international journals.

Two of these articles have received international awards: in 2019 the paper entitled “Advanced visual network and cerebellar hyperresponsiveness to trigeminal nociception in migraine with aura” was awarded the Greppi Award by the European Headache Federation, and in 2020 the paper entitled “Cognitive Networks Disarrangement in Patients With Migraine Predicts Cutaneous Allodynia” received the Wolff award by the American Headache Society.

Research Laboratory in the Neuroimaging of Headache Disorders of Prof Antonio Russo utilizes advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to study migraine. This includes structural measures, such as diffusion tensor imaging and cortical thickness, as well as functional measures, including event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging and resting state functional connectivity.

The goal of Dr Russo’s research is to clarify migraine pathophysiological mechanisms and to identify reliable and reproducible imaging biomarkers in diagnosing, treating and prognosticating outcomes for patients with migraine.
