WFN Service Page in JNS

Since 2022, the WFN has hosted a virtual regional meeting at the start of each year. This year’s meeting continued the focus on brain health and the implementation of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP). Understanding how IGAP is being implemented in different regions is crucial, as it allows for knowledge sharing and learning from global neurology initiatives. Launched in 2022, IGAP is a 10-year initiative running through 2031.

Advocacy, prevention, therapy, innovation, and public health efforts under IGAP should be further promoted. All 196 member states have signed this document, committing their support. The WFN will continue supporting this important WHO project, promoting its toolkit, and incorporating IGAP into all regional and local meetings to raise awareness and encourage implementation among neurologists.

This edition of the WFN service pages features two noteworthy contributions:

  • A short, invited essay by a WFN neurology trainee who completed his four-year neurology training in Cape Town, South Africa, this year.
  • An article on palliative care in stroke patients, based on several lectures presented at the joint World Stroke Organization–WFN symposium on the topic.

We hope this edition provides valuable insights into WFN proceedings and future directions in neurology care. One article explores the future of neurology training in Africa, while a series of four short articles examines the evolving field of palliative care in stroke patients, an area of growing importance.

About the WFN Service Pages in JNS

The World Federation of Neurology (WFN) service pages, edited by Profs. Steven L. Lewis and Wolfgang Grisold, provide additional information on WFN activities, and complement the World Neurology (WN) website and WFN social media. We published the events of last year, 2024, and the prospects for this year, 2025, on the WN and WFN websites, and we will focus this issue of the service pages on the regional and extended trustee meeting.
