"Stroke is a brain attack: Prevent it - treat it" is the motto of World Brain Day 2017 which is going to be celebrated on 22 July. This year, the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) partners with the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) to take action and increase awareness on stroke prevention and treatment.
More than 17 million strokes occur globally every year, one in six people will suffer a stroke in their lifetime. With more than 6 million deaths annually stroke is the leading cause of death on a global scale. Many of the 26 million stroke survivors worldwide live with significant disabilities. 90 percent of strokes are linked to 10 risk factors which demonstrate the huge potential for prevention at populations and individual level.
Numerous organisations around the world will mark this important event with national and local information and awareness activities and event. On a global scale, the WFN and the WSO are organising an online webinar press conference.
