Amadou DIOP
Amadou Gallo DIOP is a Professor of Neurology, Epileptology and Neurosciences at the University of Dakar. Graduated MD in 1988 in Dakar and specialized in Neurology (Universities of Toulouse, France and Dakar, Senegal), he obtained his PhD in Neurobiology in Limoges, France, in 1995 and served as Assistant-Professor at the University Hospital of Limoges for 4 years and experienced visiting Professorship in several Universities. He has also an expertise in Public health and Health Promotion (University of Nancy, France).
He was promoted to the position of professor of Medicine in 1996 after a continental contest and was ranked first. He is a Past-president of Society of Neuroscientists of Africa, past-Chair of the Africa Commission of the International League against Epilepsy and elected Trustee of the World Federation of Neurology (2015-2017).
He has recently been awarded by European Academy of Neurology with its “Golden Hammer” by setting up the original initiative of “Neuro-Caravans”, consisting in bringing specialized care out of capital cities to rural areas. Prof. Diop is currently the Head of the Department of Neurology at the Fann University Hospital, Director General of Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Hogher Education. He led the Direction of Cooperation of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, from 2016 to 2020.
His participation in several scientific conventions in 57 countries across the world, more than 325 scientific communications and publications and having grown in a multicultural, multilingual environment make him a real citizen of the world. All of these experiences have given him an international open vision and approach for global health care and education.
Son of a teacher, deeply rooted in the soil of the African continent, widely open to the world’s diversity and infinite opportunities, Prof Amadou Gallo DIOP is convinced that education and training are the keys for bridging any gap and go beyond the borders raised by economic, environmental and human factors.
