To WFN member societies in the Americas

The World Federation of Neurology is pleased to invite bids to host the World Congress of Neurology (WCN) in 2029 from national member society Presidents and Delegates in the Americas at a suitable venue.

The World Congress of Neurology (WCN) is the premier educational event of the World Federation of Neurology. Beginning in 2028, the WCN rotates every year between three different regions of the world, all with different health systems, different backgrounds, different neurological challenges, and different needs. The WCN typically has between 4000-6000 participants. The structure consists of plenary topics, scientific topics, and teaching courses.  The WFN develops the program with the hosting society and the regional society to capture as many local needs as possible.

As a first step the World Federation of Neurology invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from national member societies in the Americas that may wish to be considered as hosts of the World Congress of Neurology (WCN) 2029.

The EOI phase is intended to allow interested member societies to signal their preliminary interest without the need to prepare a full bid at this stage

Member societies wishing to submit an EOI are invited to do so by 15 March 2026.

The EOI should be brief (maximum 2–3 pages) and include the following basic information:

  • Name of the WFN member society and key contact details
  • Proposed host city and country
  • Proposed venue (or venue options) and indicative capacity
  • Confirmation of the society’s willingness and ability to host WCN 2029
  • A short statement outlining why the destination is suitable for WCN 2029

Following review of EOIs, WFN may shortlist a limited number of societies and invite them to proceed to the full bid stage. Societies that are not shortlisted may still be encouraged to consider future WCN editions.

Shortlisted societies will be asked to proceed with a full application to be submitted by 1st May 2026.  WCN Guidelines will be available by 1st March 2026 from the WFN Office.  All applications will be treated in confidence and will be reviewed by the WFN.

Applications that are shortlisted will be notified by the beginning of June.  A site visit to the shortlisted sites by WFN officers and a representative of the WFN Professional Congress Organiser to evaluate the proposed venue and related facilities may take place in the ensuing months. A report and recommendation will then be submitted to the Council of Delegates for electronic voting prior to the Annual General Meeting in October 2026. Prior to the voting, the short-listed societies will also be invited to present their bids online to be reviewed by the Council of Delegates. The final decision will be announced at the Annual General Meeting of the Council of Delegates in October 2026.

For any questions or for further information, please do not hesitate to contact the WFN directly at info@wfneurology.org. The timelines outlined in this document are fixed as standard. Any deviations may be made at the discretion of WFN and only in exceptional circumstances.

The WFN looks forward to hearing from any member neurological society in the region of the Americas that wish to be considered as the host of WCN 2029.
