Prof. Dr Wolfgang Grisold, WFN President, was honoured to speak once again at the 6th Brain Health Conference, held in Beijing on 18–22 July and organised by the Chinese Medical Association (CMA) as part of the national Brain Health Initiative1 . The congress aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerate innovation in brain disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
The conference, themed “Science and Technological Innovation Empowering Targeted Brain Health Management” 2 , brought together leading experts from China and abroad to address key issues such as Alzheimer’s prevention, mental health, paediatric brain health, and emerging technologies like AI and brain-computer interfaces.
Professor Grisold introduced the “Inverted Pyramid” model for Brain Health, which reimagines traditional healthcare priorities. Instead of placing specialist care at the top, this model emphasises prevention, education, early intervention, and community involvement as foundational elements. It advocates for sustainable brain health through bottom-up engagement, aligning with the global shift toward integrated, proactive, and community-focused approaches.
During the meeting, organisers highlighted China’s progress in brain health research and care, in the prevention and control of major brain diseases, cutting-edge technology research and development, and multidisciplinary collaborative innovation, while acknowledging ongoing challenges posed by an ageing population, and the diversified demand for health in society, early diagnosis, precise treatment, comprehensive rehabilitation and whole-life cycle management of neurological diseases.
