World Federation of Neurology congratulates Prof. Alla Guekht on her election as President-elect of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), 2025-29.
Alla is Director of the Moscow Research and Clinical Center for Neuropsychiatry and Professor of Neurology in the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. Her main research interests are focused on epilepsy, cerebrovascular diseases, as well as neuropsychiatry.
Prof. Guekht has served in various leadership positions in the ILAE, and for over 25 years been heavily involved in WHO initiatives in epilepsy and brain health—coordinating the epilepsy community teamwork in promoting epilepsy as a public health priority at the level of the WHO. In recent years she contributed substantially to the landmark WHO-ILAE-IBE Global Report on epilepsy, World Health Assembly Resolution and Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and other Neurological Disorders, and several other strategic WHO documents in epilepsy, COVID-19, plus other areas of neurology and brain health. As a WFN Trustee, Professor Guekht has been crucial to WFN's ongoing relationship with the UN and WHO, including IGAP implementation.
