The World Federation of Neurology (WFN) is proud to announce the formal admission of three new national member societies, expanding our global network dedicated to improving brain health worldwide.
These new members strengthen WFN's international coalition and broaden our collaborative reach across Europe and Africa. The newly welcomed societies represent:
Djibouti: Djiboutian Society of Neurosciences
Niger: Société Nigérienne de Neurologie (SONINE)
Ukraine (Ukrainian Neurological Association): Representing neurologists across a nation facing immense health care delivery challenges, the Association plays a vital role in sustaining neurological education, clinical standards, and patient care continuity throughout the region.
Niger (Société Nigérienne de Neurologie): Based in West Africa, Niger faces significant hurdles in neurological care infrastructure. Published public health data indicates that only around 10 neurologists are actively practicing to serve a population exceeding 21 million inhabitants, highlighting the critical importance of regional professional networks like the Société Nigérienne de Neurologie in driving advocacy and resource development.
Djibouti (Djiboutian Society of Neurosciences): Serving the Horn of Africa, the Djiboutian Society of Neurosciences unites local specialists addressing vital clinical demands, such as managing high-burden neurological emergencies like stroke and expanding neurological education within the country's health system.
Representation and Governance: Participation in the WFN Council of Delegates, giving regional specialists a voice in global neurological policymaking.
Educational Grants and Fellowships: Opportunities for local trainees and early-career specialists to apply for WFN educational grants and junior travelling fellowships.
Global Collaboration: Access to world-class educational programs, including the WFN Education Committee initiatives and registration pathways for the World Congress of Neurology (WCN).
The WFN warmly welcomes the Djiboutian Society of Neurosciences, Société Nigérienne de Neurologie (SONINE), and Ukrainian Neurological Association to our global community as we continue our shared mission to foster quality neurology and brain health worldwide.
