Plenary Lecture 10 Introduction

Ryuji Kaji

Dr. Ryuji Kaji is the Director of National Utano Hospital, Kyoto, and Distinguished Professor of Clinical Neuroscience at Tokushima University, Tokushima, Japan. He served as an elected Trustee of WFN from 2006 to 2013, the chair of Asia Initiative, WFN (-2016), and currently First Vice President of WFN.

Dr. Kaji received neurology and neurophysiology training (EMG) at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a movement disorders training course at the Kyoto University Hospital. His research interests have focused on the study of pathophysiology, molecular genetics, and functional neuroanatomy of dystonia, especially those of lubag dystonia.

As an electromyographer, he also developed a keen interest in motor neuron disease and its look-alikes, and discovered a standard treatment for multifocal motor neuropathy (IVIg).

He also published a paper on a new gene causing ALS (OPTN). As an electromyographer, he gave many lectures and courses on botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders including spasticity.
