In 2021 the Fürst Donnersmarck Foundation will award its renowned research award for outstanding work in the field of neurological rehabilitation for the sixth time.

The award is given to interdisciplinary rehabilitation concepts and methods as well as scientific evidence of effectiveness and efficiency (outcome research), as required in practice, especially by rehabilitation providers, payers and political institutions (socio-economic effects). Particular consideration will be given to work from the newer field of participation research that directly involves people with disabilities in the research process.

The prize is €30,000 and may be divided. In addition, the research award jury can award up to 5 awards of €3,000.

In 2018 over 30 scientists from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada and the USA submitted their work for review. The winner was The Münster researcher Dr. med. Sonja Suntrup-Krüger for her research in the field of neurogenic dysphagia (swallowing disorders).
